Karachi: A recent spate of killings continued on Thursday in Pakistan’s commerical hub, with at least four men killed, besides two robbers, a day after eight people died in separate incidents of violence in the city.

Two bodies were found dumped in the Korangi Crossing area. People returning from the mosques after morning prayers saw the corpes lying on the road. The bodies seemed to be of ethnic Afghan or Pashtun, who were hit bullets in their heads and chests.

The police took fingerprints and specimens of their blood to be sent to the pathological laboratory and the National Data Registration Authority (NADRA) for the identification of the bodies.

Police spokespersons said in the afternoon two more bodies had been found lying at the Dumba Goth along the Super Highway. The bodies were also yet to be identified.

Elsewhere in the city, police shot and killed two robbers at the Gunna Mandi, near Sohrab Goth. Police sources said five robbers were engaged in crime when officers arrived at the scene.

An exchange of fire took place in which the two robbers were killed and the remaining three fled, leaving behind their loot.

Incidents of violence rose in the city as unknown assailants gunned down at least three men in sectarian attacks. Political workers were also among those killed on Wednesday.

Unknown gunmen on a motorcycle targeted Dr Mohammad Fayyaz, who was the secretary-general of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamat (AWSJ) of Karachi chapter, along with his driver, while he was passing through an industrial estate in the western Karachi.

Earlier in the day masked men riding on a motorcycle shot down Hasnain Shah Bukhari, who was a senior lawyer in the Sindh High Court (SHC) and a member of the Legal Aid Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Police were investigating whether the murder was motivated by sectarian leanings or other reasons.

A shopkeeper was also killed in Bahadurabad neighbourhood, with five others injured. The shopkeeper belonged to minority Bohri sect.

The unknown attackers had left a leaflet on the spot threatening the media, law enforcement agencies with serious consequences for killing their allies in frequent fake armed encounters.
