Dubai: Following a Samsung Note 7 ban by national carriers Etihad Airways and Emirates, flydubai on Monday announced that it will not allow the device on board.
On Monday, flydubai issued a statement that it will neither allow Note 7 on board nor in the checked baggage.
“In line with the recent regulatory directive, flydubai is unable to accept the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 personal electronic device on board our aircraft or in checked baggage with immediate effect,” the budget carrier said in a statement.
Etihad Airways and Emirates also announced on Sunday a complete ban the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones being carried on their flights.
Earlier in September, Etihad, Emirates and flydubai issued statements about enforcing only a temporary ban on the in-flight use and battery charging of these devices on their flights, but now passengers cannot even bring them on board.
These devices have been installed with faulty lithium batteries, which could present a risk of combustion and fire.
On October 11, Samsung Electronics said that it is ending production of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones permanently, which was a day after it halted global sales of the star-crossed devices.
The South Korean company said in a regulatory filing that it decided to stop manufacturing Note 7 for the sake of consumer safety and that it had identified a manufacturing defect in the batteries of its top-of-the-line smartphone.
