Dubai: Five people were killed and four injured in Dubai when a bus and a truck crashed on Al Rabat street in the Al Garhoud direction on Sunday morning.
The bus was transporting 20 workers.
Brigadier Saeed Hamad Bin Sulaiman, Director of Al Rashidiya Police Station, said the accident ocurred around 5am.
Teams were immediately dispatched to the area, where they found that four workers had died on the spot. A fifth labourer died at Rashid Hopsital where he was taken for treatment due to severe injuries.
“Four other men were injured, of which two suffered severe injuries,” he said.
The bus had crashed into the rear of the truck.
Rescue teams had to use hydraulic cutters to cut through the bus and rescue the trapped and injured labourers.
Teams from traffic police, Dubai Police rescue and Dubai Ambulance Services responded to the accident.
Brigadier Bin Sulaiman emphasised the importance of abiding by traffic rules and regulations, urging motorists to use indicators before changing lanes, and be more careful when driving on highways.
