Fetty Wap is being sued by a Danish songwriter, who claims the rap star’s hit Trap Queen was based on a beat he owned and which had been used without permission.
TMZ reports Lazar Lakic claims that he bought the exclusive rights to a beat called Hello in 2014 from Tony Fadd, who produced Trap Queen. Lakic says he refused an alleged offer by Fadd’s to buy the rights back in January 2015. The offer came well after Trap Queen — which was released in April 2014 — became a hit.
As a result, Lakic reportedly wants damages and all existing copies of Trap Queen to be destroyed.
Fetty Wap’s lawyer told TMZ that there were contracts to prove the beat had been bought legally from Fadd. He said that Wap would pursue Fadd to cover any damages awarded.
Trap Queen was a huge hit for Fetty Wap, reaching No 2 in the US chart and spending 12 weeks in the Top 10. It was certified platinum in Australia, Denmark, New Zealand and the UK, and quadruple platinum in the US.
