Abu Dhabi: Emirati women have made incredible achievements in all fields to boost the country’s civilisational progress and build its renaissance side by side with men.

Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union (GWU), Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, made these remarks on Saturday on the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day which falls on August 28.

“The impressive success made by Emirati women has not been achieved by chance but by the great support given by the leadership through providing them with real opportunities to prove themselves. It was also achieved by their strong determination to move forward with their great capabilities,” Shaikha Fatima said.

“Thanks to the grace of Allah the Almighty and thanks to the unlimited support of our wise leadership, the women of the UAE are moving from success to success in the fields of education, career and family care,” she added.

Shaikha Fatima paid tribute to the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan who laid the foundation for women’s empowerment. She also hailed the vision of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in providing all means of support to women to continue their advancement.

Shaikha Fatima referred to the numerous initiatives launched by the GWU that helped empower women in health care, educational and social fields, including Know Your Rights, Be Ready and First Aid Responder initiatives.

“The UAE women are now well-positioned to assume a larger role in the sustainable development process. Their efforts, their contributions and their successes in taking the lead are evident,” Shaikha Fatima said.

She added: “We look forward to seeing more achievements by UAE women and we will be with them every step of the way, providing support and setting the ground, guided by the teachings of our tolerant Islam, by the principles of our wise leadership and by the values of our heritage.”
