Dubai: Hind Al Yousuf Khalifa was one of the first two Community Web Editors on the Readers Desk in Gulf News. A feisty, courageous Emirati graduate who wanted to change the world — the very reason she became a journalist.

An American University of Sharjah alumni, she died after a tough battle with leukaemia. Hind battled her illness with the same ‘can do’ attitude that she faced life with.

She joined the section in 2007 as an intern and her light of curiosity burnt bright. A few years later, ill health forced her to quit, but she continued as our community journalist from the capital — bringing unique content.

A short life, indeed, but one that was filled with love. Her friends have created a website www.hindstrong.com, which is testimony to the brave young woman she was.

One of her closest friends, Mohammad Jihad, told Gulf News: “Hind was always there and never hesitated to help. She always put other people’s needs before her own, even when she did not have the time. I have lost a friend and a sister, and no one could ever replace her.”
