Social media has become an integral part of our lives, taking over 90 per cent of our time on a daily basis. Although, it can be good and bad for society, I personally do not like it. Nothing is more annoying than trying to talk to someone, while he or she is busy updating his or her Facebook status or checking their newsfeed.

Social media is ruining relationships, and we are getting further away from face-to-face interaction. In a family, everyone has a phone and family members hardly talk to each other, instead each and everyone is more concerned about updating their status or uploading pictures than actually paying attention. This is an alarming issue as it can become a cause for concern in terms of our safety.

Social media takes away our privacy and for a person like me, i do not want others to interfere in my personal life, nor do I want to interfere in others’ personal matters. It is supposed to be a fun platform, but to me it is more like a curse that is depriving people from human interaction. People no longer visit each other, and rather depend on online interaction.

I am not against social media as a platform to voice your opinion, but if it is taking over our lives, it has gone too far. Everything that crosses a certain line, can never be good and that is the case with social networking sites as it has become part of people’s priorities.

We have become social animals, but the truth is that we need human interaction and at the end of the day, if you’re in pain, Facebook is not going to be the shoulder that you can cry on, nor will it wipe away your tears.
