Dubai: Eurostar’s new wearable device – eWatch – is quite different from the smartwatches available in the market.

The touch-screen device has a SIM slot for making calls, sending emails, camera, speaker, MP3 player which supports all formats and all other features available on a smartphone. It is compatible with Android and iOS handsets. But it does not have the health apps and sensor on the watch.

Setting up the device is easy with a smartphone via Bluetooth.

“This is the first wearable smartwatch from Eurostar. It is a product that offers value for money,” said Youssef Saidi, chief operating officer at Eurostar.

He said it is a replacement for the smartphone.

“I don’t think it [smartwatch] is a mass market product yet. It will have a success only when health care apps are linked to it. It is an emerging technology and we want to be on this segment,” he said.

The wearable devices will grow only when “distant monitoring and alarming features” are incorporated into it.

“We are strong in all the mass market devices but we do not neglect the niche market also because this is where innovation happens. We are working to add more features in our next product,” he said.

The box comes with a Bluetooth headset and a USB cable for charging the device. It is priced at Dh299.
