Abu Dhabi: Development of a national database for medical laboratories and professionals is currently underway as the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (Esma) launches a nationwide programme that aims to further improve the standards in the sector.

Dr Rehab Faraj Al Ameri, Director of the National Accreditation Department at Esma, announced on Sunday that the National programme for medical laboratories aims at building a federal database of accredited medical laboratories in cooperation with relevant health authorities and national and local expertise in this field.

As part of the programme, the national accreditation department in Esma has now opened the registration for citizens and residents in the UAE to apply for the three-day training course beginning on December 10.

“The training programme will help professionals to increase the efficiency in addition to meeting the requirements of the international standard for medical laboratories and accreditation requirements,” said Al Ameri.

Through the National Accreditation System (ENAS), the authority has started working with its partners to build a local database of residents and technical experts working in the medical laboratory sector.

“We will provide advanced technical training programmes for the rehabilitation of residents and experts according to the latest international practices in preparation for the implementation of evaluation and auditing according to the requirements of the system National accreditation and international standards in this regard,” she added.
