Dubai: An employee and his girlfriend were jailed for six months each for stealing Dh9,500 from the woman’s sponsor shortly after they had sex outside marriage at the villa.
The 21-year-old Sri Lankan employee sneaked into the house where his countrywoman girlfriend worked as a maid and had sex with her in August.
Then he stole Dh9,500 from the villa of the Canadian sponsor, who was abroad, and went to brag about it before his friends shortly before the police apprehended him and his girlfriend.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendants of stealing more than Dh9,000 from the Canadian sponsor’s house after they pleaded guilty.
The maid stole Dh9,500 and they employee aided and abetted her.
According to Thursday’s ruling, the defendants will be deported after serving their punishments.
The duo were tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court for having unmarried sex and are awaiting judgement.
The Canadian sponsor testified that he was away on leave when his neighbour informed him over the phone that a robbery had taken place at his house and police visited the scene.
“I called up the police and informed them that I would give my statement once I return from leave,” he said.
A police corporal said when he questioned the maid, she told him she and the man had consensual sex after she let him into her sponsor’s villa.
“She admitted that she stole money. Meanwhile the male defendant admitted that he took the stolen money from his countrywoman to boast about it before his friends … he also admitted that he sneaked into the villa and had sex with his girlfriend,” he added.
Thursday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
