Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said on Tuesday that the UAE  Embassy in Washington is investigating the death of an Emirati student in Ohio. 

The ministry was still waiting for the completion of the investigations by the embassy.

A statement by the Summit County medical examiner named the student as 26-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, residing in Cleveland, Ohio.

"The autopsy has been completed and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death is homicide," the statement said.

It added: "The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will not be releasing any more information at this time.  For any other information regarding this case contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI)."

Gulf News contacted the UAE Embassy in Washington, which said the Ohio state police were investigating the case.

“Once we get the details from the police, we will issue a detailed statement about the case through the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,” said a media official at the embassy.
