Fujairah: An Emirati journalist  was killed on Tuesday morning in a horrific road accident on Dibba Al Fujairah Road.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Saeed Al Hassani, Director of Media and Public Relations Department at Fujairah Police, told Gulf News the accident occurred at 7.45am on Massafi Road.

The 33-year-old reporter, identified as Faris Abdullah Ali Al Zuyodi, worked with the Emirates News Agency WAM in its Fujairah office.

The victim was in his car when another vehicle overtook from the wrong lane and crashed into the vehicle.

Paramedics and an ambulance team rushed to the scene of the incident but the Emirati journalist had already succumbed to his critical injuries.

According to Fujairah police, the other driver sustained serious injuries and was transferred to Dibba Fujairah Hospital.

Yasser Rashid Al Hufaity, a Twitter user, also posted a photo online of Al Zeyoudi, saying: “We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”

@R_3ei said he was heartbroken over the tragic news and prayed for Allah to have mercy on his soul.

In a statement, the National Media Council said: “[We] extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, praying to Allah Almighty to bestow his mercy upon him and rest him in eternal peace, and to grant his family patience and solace.”

The funeral was held on Wednesday at the Shaikh Zayed Mosque in Dibba Al Fujairah, after Dhuhur (midday) prayers.
