Dubai: An Emirati woman was killed on Monday after she recklessly pulled into a petrol station and collided into another vehicle.

According to Dubai Police, the fatal crash occurred at around 7.30am in Al Aweer, which left another Emirati woman and her two children with moderate injuries.

Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said that the incident took place as a result of the motorist’s decision to suddenly swerve into the petrol station.

The police report stated that the 39-year-old victim was speeding in a Lexus car when she abruptly turned right to enter the petrol station, which then collided head-on into another vehicle.

The heavy impact of the accident caused the driver, a school teacher, to sustain serious injuries. The Air Wing at Dubai Police then dispatched a team to transfer the victim to hospital, but she was reportedly dead upon arrival.

Col Al Mazroui said that the driver of the other vehicle was a woman, accompanied with her two children. All three family members sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the traffic accident, and were transferred to Rashid Hospital for treatment.

According to a recent report, the majority of accidents on Dubai’s roads were caused by motorists who either changed lanes suddenly or were driving drunk, followed by not leaving enough distance between the cars ahead.

The report was carried out by Movesouq.com and Qatar Insurance Company.

Data was compiled from Dubai Police statistics on road accidents that occurred in 2015 with legal cases attached to them, with the exception of minor incidents causing minor to moderate damages to property.
