Ras Al Khaimah: A 19-year-old Emirati driver burned to death when his vehicle caught fire on Ghaleila Road in Ras Al Khaimah, an official at Ras Al Khaimah police confirmed to Gulf News on Saturday.

Brigadier Dr. Mohammad Saeed Al Hamidi, director-general of the General Directorate of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said police were alerted about the incident at 4pm on Saturday. 

The car hit another vehicle then veered off the road and hit a lamp post, police said. 

"The fire started after the vehicle crashed into lamp post. The driver burned to death,” police said.

Police said that the driver was trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle that entered the road from the subway without making sure that the road was clear.

The victim was identified as A.A.M.M. Police said that the body has been handed over to the family for burial. 

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
