Abu Dhabi: The Embassy of the Republic of Costa Rica was officially opened in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
The formal opening of the premises was attended by Costa Rican Foreign and Worship Minister Manuel A. Gonzalez Sanz and UAE Minister of State Zaki Nussaibah.
Sanz said, “It is for me a great pleasure to stand here in front of all you for the inauguration of the Embassy of the Republic of Costa Rica in the United Arab Emirates. As Foreign Minister, I am pleased to leave the legacy of friendship that our countries have built in such a short period of time.
“The presence of the mission in the UAE signifies the seal of this friendship that will get stronger and stronger with the passage of time. So far, we have signed six agreements.”
Sanz held a bilateral meeting with Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and also visited Sharjah to meet Shaikh Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, executive president for Government Affairs of the Sharjah Executive Council.
“The opening of the promotion office in Dubai next year will be another milestone in our bilateral relations, a path that we will follow promoting the tourism and investment in Costa Rica, and also promote Costa Rica as a partner for cooperation in renewable energies,” he said.
Costa Rica has signed agreements, so far, with the UAE on air service, double taxation avoidance, visa waiver for holders of all types of passports, and promotion and protection of investment. It also signed an agreement on political consultation mechanism.
The Costa Rican National Exports Promotion Office has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
