Sharjah: Two men have been arrested for a string of shop break-ins in the emirate, police said on Monday.

Sharjah Police said the police sprang into action after receiving a number of complaints from shopkeepers.

The Arab and Bangladeshi duo are said to have smashed the windows of the stores before stealing the contents.

The police collected information about the way the crimes were committed to track down the suspects. They managed to identify the vehicle the suspects were in. On checking the vehicle’s data, police found the plate number was forged and it belonged to someone who had been deported. Tools used in the break-ins were found in the suspects’ car.

The suspects confessed to the crimes. They have been referred to the Attorney-General. Colonel Jihad Sahoo, Director of the Criminal and Investigation Department, called on shopkeepers to secure their premises by installing alarm systems, ensuring that doors are properly secured and not leaving large sums of money inside shops.
