Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has called upon motorists to be careful while driving during the Eid Al Fitr holidays to ensure their safety and that of other road users.

The call is renewed during all festivities and celebrations which usually witness a higher accident rates in comparison to other times of the year.

Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, Traffic and Roads Agency, said ahead of Eid that the RTA wishes safety for everyone as they travel throughout and beyond the emirate to take part in featival and family gatherings.

“We hope drivers will adhere to traffic rules to spare themselves and their families exposure to unexpected traffic accidents,” said Al Banna.

He noted that families go out frequently during the Eid holidays for shopping and sightseeing and can, at times, not always be entirely focused on the task of driving at hand if they they areusing mobile telephones and texting while driving.

Distracted driving is an offence.

Al Banna also reminded motorists ahead of Eid Al Fitr that they should consider declining to climb behind the wheel if they are feeling tired to avoid traffic errors that may lead to accidents.

Al Banna asked parents not to allow their children to go outside unattended during the coming days to ensure children are fully aware of the safety requirements around busy roadways as well as the etiquette of crossing the road.
