Dubai: A salesman was caught flashing on surveillance cameras and molesting shoppers at a mall in Jumeirah.

The 29-year-old Sri Lankan salesman, S.S., was said to have sneaked behind two shoppers, a man and a woman, before exposing himself indecently and molesting them.

“Yes, I did unzip my pants and exposed myself… what I did was wrong,” the defendant was heard telling the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the defendant walked behind the two shoppers [whose identities remained undisclosed in records] and molested them.

“What do you want from the court?” presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi asked the suspect.

“I want forgiveness and mercy,” replied S.S. in courtroom seven.

An Indian shop supervisor testified to prosecutors that a client complained to him that a man was constantly drawing his body close to shoppers and molesting them.

“We checked out the surveillance camera recording and discovered that the purported culprit turned out to be S.S., who worked in one of the mall’s outlets. The video footage exposed him flashing and placing his body close to that of shoppers… he molested a man and a woman. A week later, the suspect visited the shop and we called him. When we confronted him with the recordings, he confessed that he had molested a number of shoppers. He asked for forgiveness, but we still reported the matter to the police,” claimed the supervisor.

During prosecution questioning, the suspect confessed that he molested shoppers by drawing his body close to theirs from the back.

A ruling will be heard on September 24.
