Dubai: A new programme that aims to enhance the skills of media professionals in covering issues related to national security was launched on Thursday at the Dubai Press Club.
The first edition of the ‘Media Leadership’ programme organised by Dubai Press Club in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi National Defence College (NDC) and with the support of the National Media Council (NMC) will run for three months.
The programme will assist media professionals in evaluating present and future challenges, as well as understand and deal with various regional and global developments. It will also raise their understanding on how certain topics can be covered in the media.
Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated, attended the launch of the programme, which also saw the participation of the heads of media organisations across the UAE. Mansour Al Mansouri, acting director-general of NMC, was also present.
Mona Ghanim Al Merri, president of Dubai Press Club, welcomed the participants on the first day of the programme and thanked the Abu Dhabi National Defence College for its academic support to the programme through a number of highly qualified professors.
The programme will cover topics such as: national identity and sovereignty, the notion of state and the elements that affect them and their security; the importance of political stability in building people’s abilities; strategic thinking and how to define objectives and means of achieving it; information as a key element of national sovereignty; and strategic thinking in developing media messages, among other topics.
The programme seeks to help attendees sharpen their analytical, research, critical thinking and evaluation skills in an interactive learning environment. It will help enable them to contribute to the process for policy development and strategic national decision-making.
