Dubai: Dubai Police have uncovered the mystery behind an unidentified body found burning two weeks ago near a warehouse in Al Ghusais Industrial Area, officials said on Saturday.

Lt Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, said the victim, identified as a man from Comoros Islands, was murdered by his wife and her “lover”.

Revealing the details of the crime, Maj Gen Al Mazeina said that on October 15, the police received a report of a body found burning near a warehouse. The man who called the police said he was touring the warehouse when he was shocked to see a burning corpse.

Lt Gen Al Mazeina said the officer on duty immediately moved to the spot with a team. When the investigators identified the victim, his wife was summoned.

“Upon questioning her on the whereabouts of her husband, the woman claimed that he disappeared 14 days ago after he went fishing. But on further questioning, she admitted having an affair with her husband’s friend, which led to the murder,” said Lt Gen Al Mazeina.

Apparently, the woman had been involved in an extra-marital affair with another Comoros national for the past two years and her relationship with her husband had soured during this period.

The woman disclosed that as her affair blossomed, her relationship with her husband went from bad to worse, though he was unaware of her affair.

Fed up with growing disputes she decided to get rid of her husband with the help of her lover. On the eve of the crime the woman and her lover sat together and planned how to get rid of the victim. On October 15 at 3am, her lover called her husband on the pretext of solving their domestic disputes and took him out in his car.

Once the woman confessed, the police hunted down the other suspect, identified as Kh.B, who revealed further details.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, assistant to the commander-in-chief for criminal investigation at Dubai Police, said that Kh. B. also pleaded guilty to the crime.

Strangely, after a discussion between the two “friends”, the victim agreed to a proposal from his friend to tie his hands and legs and go back to his wife in that state just to satisfy her. After tying his hands and legs the suspect drove the car to a dark and remote part of Al Tai district in Sharjah. Getting him out of the car, he then hurled a big stone at the victim’s head, who began bleeding profusely.

Though the victim was still alive, he put him back in the car and drove to his lover’s residence. Leaving the victim bleeding in the back seat of the car, he went to meet the woman to tell her that the mission was accomplished.

Then the suspects agreed on the method of disposing of the body.

Lt Gen Al Mazeina said that on the same day of the crime, Kh. B. bought a bottle of oil and headed to Al Ghusais Industrial Area, looking for a proper place to burn the body.

“He committed his crime near a warehouse where he took the victim out of the car. He felt that the victim was still alive so he dragged him to the rear door and struck his head multiple times and ran him over until he made sure that the victim was dead,” said Lt Gen Al Mazeina.

The suspect than poured fuel over the victim’s body and set him on fire. He then left the victim burning and threw the bottle in a place close to the crime scene.

Lt Gen Al Mazeina praised the efforts made by the criminal investigation team to determine and uncover the identity of the victim and catch the perpetrators of the crime.
