Dubai: Dubai Police’s land and maritime rescue teams carried out 6,442 rescue mission in the first quarter of 2016.

Lt Col Ahmad Atiq Burquibah, deputy director of Dubai Police’s Search and Rescue Department, said that these included rescuing people trapped in their cars following traffic accidents, people lost in the desert, transporting vehicles that had broken down, opening elevator doors that failed because of technical issues, and rescuing people from drowning.

“Our teams are ready round the clock, and our aim is to achieve the best response time,” he said.

Dubai Police’s rescue teams’ average response time is seven-eight minutes, which is within the 12-minute ideal response time.

In 2015, the land rescue department carried out 24,865 rescue missions.

The department’s employees have periodic training to be able to handle all emergency situations, and have access to the best tools used in rescue.
