Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has recruited 531 nurses from countries such as India, Philippines and Jordan.
Abdullah Belhouma, head of planning and recruitment section, DHA, said: “The recruitment has been based on a detailed workforce plan which takes into consideration various factors such as specialty of manpower needed, number of nurses per hospital bed and so on. Expansion of the trauma centre is under way, the expansion of the neonatal unit at Latifa Hospital is in its last stages of completion,” he said.
Many of the of the nurses coming in are specialised in areas such as critical care, intensive care units, obstetrics and gynaecology.
In 2012, the DHA signed a MoU with the University of Bradford, to give nurses with a diploma an opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree within a year without having to leave their jobs. The DHA also provides maternity nurses with an opportunity to pursue a one-year midwifery course organised in association with the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai.
