Dubai: Dubai continues to raise the bar on the enforcement of justice and delivering top-class judicial work through the adoption and best use of technology and organisational excellence in public prosecution, said Dubai’s Attorney-General on Monday.

“The 19th International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) Annual Conference 2014 has high aspirations as Dubai continues to raise the bar on delivery of justice and judicial work through the use of technology and organisational excellence in the field of prosecutors and attorneys-general,” said Attorney-General Essam Al Humaidan as he addressed hundreds of attorneys-general and public prosecutors from 156 countries who attended the inauguration on Monday.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the 19th IAP Annual Conference that is being organised by the Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP).

“It is clear that the UAE leaders led by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Shaikh Mohammad have ambitious projects and bold initiatives on their minds. Amongst those projects is DPP’s ambitious initiative to switch to full-fledged smart services,” added Al Humaidan.

Shaikh Mohammad also launched the IAP Arabic website, an initiative of DPP in collaboration with IAP, in response to the message of the UAE Vice-President to support the Arabic language and consolidate its position as a tool of culture and an expression of values and originality.

“It is a great moment to see more than 500 attorneys-general and public prosecutors from 156 countries present here with us today. This is the first time such a conference is being held in an Arab city… the aim is to exchange expertise with our peers and discuss topics that top the agenda of several public prosecutions around the world,” said Al Humaidan.

Smart services

Gerhard Jarosch, IAP’s president, expressed his pleasure at bringing the IAP Annual Conference to Dubai.

During the event, a documentary was shown on DPP’s achievements and its approach in developing smart services which are the subject of international interest, as they provide ease to customers and stakeholders.

The conference, which concludes on Thursday, will discuss training development and performance appraisal of public prosecutors, use of technology in prosecution services, and dealing with youth offenders, which are all top priorities for public prosecutions around the world.
