Dubai: Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) of Dubai Municipality is prepared and equipped to detect lab-grown diamonds against natural stones, said Aisha Rashid Al Mazroui, head of Gemstones and Precious Metals Laboratory at DCL.

“We have a governmental responsibility towards the trade, so we provide excellent quality service by equipping ourselves with state-of-the-art infrastructure to provide our services to the traders as well as to the common public,” a press release from the municipality quoted Al Mazroui as saying in an interview.

She said DCL has always been keen to support the gem and precious metals business in Dubai in terms of certification, grading, standardisation and hallmarking.

“We also help traders and businessmen to provide information regarding the certification and grading of their products to their customers," Al mazroui said.

"DCL saves the time and money of traders taken to go to certification bodies in foreign countries by certifying their goods in Dubai itself,” she added.

Due to their experience accumulated over the years, experts from the lab had are regularly invited to present their research work at various international conferences.

“We also present our research work at various international gem and jewellery conferences and organise regular training programmes on gems and precious metals business and the latest equipment available at DCL for testing. In addition, we meet with the traders on a regular basis to update ourselves as well as for collecting their feedback on our services,” she said.

“We regularly publish the policies, laws and regulations for the benefit of the traders and the general public.

"As a central authority to streamline and structure the gems and precious metals trade in Dubai, DCL advises the traders, most of whom run their business through generations, to safeguard their image and ultimately maintain the image of Dubai, which is known across the world as a quality-conscious trading destination,” said Al Mazroui.
