Duba: Dubai Arabian Horse Stud’s D Shallal was one of the big winners on the final day of the Dh15 million Dubai International Arabian Horse Championships, capturing the coveted gold medal in the Yearling Colt’s Championship.

The imposing chestnut, who also stuck gold at the Ajman show earlier this year but had to settle for the bronze in Ajman and fourth place in Sharjah, bounced back with an imperious display that impressed the judges who awarded him a high score of 32 points.

Ajman Stud’s AJ Kafu won silver with a score of 15 points while Yas BHM, owned by Ali Ganem Ali Humaila Al Mazroui, took bronze with a tally of 13 points.

Dubai Arabian Horse Stud claimed their second trophy of the night when D Ayayeb was unanimously adjudged Fillies Champion. This was her second championship gold following Sharjah.

Al Baydaa Stud’s Aria Al Baydaa took home the silver while Kamouneh Al Zobair, owned by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Mohammad Al Thani, was the bronze winner.

The magnificent Excalibur EA, the European Championship Gold Champion, claimed the major title of the evening, the Stallions Championship. The highly regarded Las Rosas All Nations Cup and East Coast Cup Junior champion wowed a large crowd of enthusiasts with her fine definition and form.

The Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship saw close to 300 horses — from over 20 countries registered with the World Arabian Horse Organisation (WAHO) — competing for the richest purse in history.

The competition was exclusive to purebred Arabian horses, which were judged on their beauty, agility and heritage.

It was attended by the region’s most elite stables and breeders.
