Dubai: A number of concerts that are being held as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) has been postponed pending further notice following the death of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia.

The Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, which organises DSF, in conjunction with Platinum Records and the artists Nawal Al Kuwaitia, Abdullah Al Ruwaished, Diana Haddad, Mohammad Assaf, Shamma Hamdan, Fayez Al Saeed, Kazem Al Saher and Husaain Al Jesmi, extended their wholehearted condolences to the Saudi public.

They also announced that all their concerts for the “DSF Celebration Nights” scheduled for January 23, 29 and 30 have been postponed until further notice. All ticket holders are advised to refer to the vendor of their tickets to get a refund.

The Media Centre of DFRE has also decided to scale down on the festivities across the emirate for the remainder of the DSF period.

“The decision was taken in conjunction with Platinum Records and all artists who were due to have participated in the last weekend of music concerts, in respect of the climate of sorrow prevailing across the GCC region over the sad demise of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia,” an official from the Media Centre of DFRE said.

Taymoor Marmarchi, Head of Platinum Records, said: “Postponing the concerts is the least we could do against the backdrop of a state of grief that has engulfed the entire region…We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people and we are certain that all our ticket holders would also share our feelings and approve of our decision to postpone the concerts. In collaboration with our partners, DFRE, we have made sure that there is a system for ticket refunds”.

Ticket holders can visit the Virgin Megastore outlets and websites from where they had purchased the tickets including Virgin Megastore Tickets, Platinumlist, Ticketmaster, to process and collect their refunds.

As DSF enters its final week, all other retail-related events such as the Celebrity Pop-up Shop at The Beach opposite JBR, the Diamond Fashion Show, and The Dubai International Kite Fest, as well as a number of activities taking place at Global Village and the fireworks shows on January 29 to 31 and February 1 at The Beach will continue.
