ABU DHABI: An Arab national was charged with consuming marijuana, possessing and bringing it into the country for the purpose of personal consumption.

Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance judge told the accused that he has been charged with consuming drugs, possessing and bringing in into the country.

The accused confessed to the consumption of the drug but insisted that it was a very small quantity.

Defence lawyer of the accused argued that his client has consumed a very miniscule amount of drug as it was revealed after the medical examinations of a Dubai clinic.

The defence requested the court that as per the medical reports, his client’s drug intake turned out to be very small so he should be pardoned or given a lenient punishment.

The judge told the defence that he is also charged with possessing and bringing it into the country.

The defence lawyer said these were all false charges framed by the Public Prosecution against his client.

But the Public Prosecution of Abu Dhabi charged the accused with consuming, possessing and bringing a banned drug into the country.

The defence submitted the medical report to the court.

The next hearing was scheduled for September 6.
