Dubai: A driver has been jailed for three months for lewd behaviour and walking behind a woman shopper at a supermarket where he molested her.
The 31-year-old Bangladeshi driver came from behind the Filipina when she was between two shelves and groped her in September at Al Satwa.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the driver of molestation and committing a lewd act in public after he pleaded guilty.
Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.
The Filipina said she was shopping at the supermarket when she felt someone touching her from behind.
“I felt someone touching me from the back. I turned around and saw that the suspect had exposed himself and he molested me. When I asked him what he was doing he only said sorry. I reported what had happened to the supermarket’s security guard and he called the police. Police apprehended the suspect once they arrived on the scene,” she testified to prosecutors.
The defendant admitted during prosecution investigations that he walked behind the woman, exposed himself and molested the woman.
Wednesday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
