Dubai: Residents can now renew their trade licences and avail of many other services from the comfort of their cars through the “drive-through” service offered at the Taajeel Centre in Deira, cutting waiting time to a “matter of minutes”.

The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) has partnered with the Taajeel (Arabic for ‘accelerate’) centre on Al Ittihad Road in order to fast-track services and offer hassle-free smart services to facilitate business registration and licensing for customer happiness.

Sami Al Qamzi, director-general of DED, officially opened the centre on Tuesday in the presence of Omar Bu Shahab, CEO of Business Registration and Licensing (BRL) sector in DED, and Najla Ebrahim Al Shamsi, general manager of Taajeel, and other senior officials.

Al Qamzi said the new service marks a quantum leap in DED’s efforts to make procedures easier for businessmen and investors through innovative smart services.

Gulf News noted that the centre doesn’t operate like the traditional drive-through where a dedicated drive-through lane and a drive-through window are present. But it is situated just beside the service road where customers can stop for a while to get their service done.

To get the service, users should first download the Taajeel Service smart app, sign up, and choose the service they require. They will find all the documentary requirements in the app and once they have prepared everything, they can drive directly to Taajeel.

“[At the centre entrance] the employee will come out, take the documents and, if the documents are in order, the employee will send an SMS to the customer so he can come back, pay the charges and the process is finished,” Bu Shahab said, adding that the licence will be delivered to the address specified by the customer.

Bu Shabab said the transaction can be completed from one’s car within five minutes or less. This is faster compared to the conventional way of transacting with DED.

The smart app also allows users to call Taajeel’s toll-free hotline or request the service by email. Other services include approvals for getting trade names, permits for warehouses, among others.
