Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists not to leave their cars with the engine running after two cars were stolen in such circumstances.
A 27-year-old Gulf national was arrested for stealing the two cars when their owners left them with engine running in two separate incidents, according to a police press release issued on Thursday.
The accused was also involved in a hit-and-run case. He placed stolen number plates on the two cars.
The Shabia police station received complaints about the two thefts.
Brigadier Ahmad Saif Bin Zaitoon Al Muhairi, director of the capital police, said that an investigation team was set up and they arrested the suspect. He said cars left with engine running are easily targeted by potential thieves. The official warned the motorists not to do so and advised them to install anti-theft alarm systems in their vehicles.
Major Mosabah Salem Al Katbi, director of Shabia police station, said the suspect confessed to the crimes. He also admitted that he had stolen the number plates, Maj Al Katbi said.
