Actor Aamir Khan says he is open to an all-women reboot of 2001 buddy film Dil Chahta Hai, which he starred in and which became a cult classic.

The Farhan Akhtar-directed film, also starring Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Khanna, was about three friends with different approaches towards relationships.

“I think it is a great concept. A bonding film about three friends who are girls is a great idea,” Khan said.

He also had a casting suggestion — his co-stars from upcoming wrestler film Dangal, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra.

“Casting will depend on the script. There are so many good actresses. Out of the three characters for sure two of them should be Sanya and Fatima. That’s the age group we are talking about. The age group of Dil Chahta Hai is very young,” Khan said.

“Forget that I was 37 when I did the film. That was a mistake and we managed to succeed. But you can’t repeat the mistake. You should actually cast girls in the age group of early 20s,” he added.

Khan’s frequent collaborator Rajkumar Hirani, with whom he worked on 3 Idiots and PK, is currently busy with his next movie, which is a biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt.

Khan said he has heard the script of the film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Dutt, and thinks it is fantastic.

“I called up Sanju and told him that for the first time in the history of cinema, an actor who is not in the film will get more popularity than the actor who has worked hard in the film,” Khan said.

Dangal releases in the UAE on December 22.
