Mary Poppins, the tale of the magical nanny that delighted millions over the past decade in the West End, is opening at Dubai Opera next year. It runs between May 1-18, with tickets going on sale on November 27.
Poppins is the fantastical nanny who, in Edwardian London, has a bottomless carpet bag and an umbrella that helps her fly. The supercalifragilistic musical is produced by Cameron Mackintosh, who is currently showcasing Les Miserables at Dubai Opera.
“It’s hard to believe that it is already 12 years since Mary Poppins first landed on the London stage. My goodness, time flies even faster than our beloved nanny,” said Mackintosh.
“I’m delighted to be bringing her to Dubai for the very first time, after spreading her magic around the world. Since we originally staged the production we have found even more magical ways to stage this timeless tale and I’m sure you will find our new Mary practically perfect in every way.”
Oscar-winning screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellowes, writes the script, while Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman provide the score. Additional music and lyrics are introduced by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
