Hyderabad: President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Asaduddin Owaisi has warned “acts of terror” committed by the “Gau Rakshaks” — cow vigilantes — are pushing India towards anarchy.

The Hyderabad MP said the vigilantes were being encouraged by the fact their ideology was shared by country’s ruling party the BJP.

Talking to the media in Hyderabad on Monday, Owaisi said the “terror activities” being carried out in the name of cow protection were increasing by the day and so far nine people had been killed and two women raped by vigilantes.

“This is a grave danger for the country and if this continues there will be more anarchy,” he warned. “These gangs were beating up whomever they want. They have become law unto themselves”.

He alleged the BJP and its government did not want to stop ‘Gau Rakshaks’ as it had a soft corner for them.

He was reacting to a series of incidents in which so called cow vigilantes had attacked Muslim animal traders and cowherds in Rajasthan, Jammu, Delhi and Jharkhand.

Demanding that the government should firmly deal with these elements, Owaisi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was merely indulging in lip service and doing nothing to stop these gangs.

“If BJP is practicing Hindutva, let them do it and see what will be its result in the country,” Owaisi said.

He expressed concern over the rising attacks on Kashmiri students in different parts of the country and the incident of one Kashmiri student being forced to leave BITS, Pilani.

“An environment of hatred towards Muslims and Kashmiris has been created in the country. They are either beating up Muslims in the name of cow or assaulting Kashmiri youth,” Owaisi said.

He reminded the government that like Kashmir, people were Kashmir were also integral part of India and demanded that the government should take stringent action against those responsible for attacks on Kashmiri youth.

Many Kashmiri youth were studying in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana under PM scholarships, he added.
