Ras Al Khaimah: Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence firefighters recovered on Wednesday three charred bodies of workers from a sponge and paper tissue warehouse after a fire broke out at the site four days ago.

The dead are all of Asian nationality.

The bodies were recovered by fire officials as part of an ongoing forensics investigation on site, said officials.

The site was handed over to the forensic laboratory of Ras Al Khaimah Police to determine the fire’s origin.

The warehouse is located near the old sheep market, officials confirmed.

Evidence gathered so far suggests the fire broke out at the warehouse around 2pm on Sunday.

Firefighters from four civil defence stations managed to control the blaze before it spread to adjacent warehouses.

Stemming the original blaze was critical, fire officials said, given that the warehouses stored chemical materials that were removed by civil defence teams to avoid an explosion.

The civil defence had reported earlier that there were no casualties reported.

Financial losses are currently being calculated but no estimate of the damage was available at press time.
