Dubai: Did you know that you can request for ambulances through an app?

In the UAE, some of the popular emergency apps residents should be aware of include the National Ambulance app 998, in addition to Dubai Ambulance’s app Olem and Same’e.

National Ambulance earlier this month launched a mobile app for residents in the Northern Emirates, providing them with the facility to request for an ambulance without any hassle.

The emergency service is available in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.

National Ambulance had earlier this month launched a mobile app for residents living in the Northern Emirates, who can now request for an ambulance with the touch of a button.

In a statement, Ahmed Saleh Al Hajeri, deputy chief executive officer of National Ambulance said: “Just as the 998 number is a valuable and precious resource, we urge users not to abuse the App by falsely requesting an ambulance, which tie up our operators and prevent our team arriving quickly to render assistance.”

The app also features a First Aid guide, which contains easy to follow steps that are accompanied with pictures, for users to know how to respond to a variety of situations, such as: choking, bleeding, burns, allergic reactions and strokes.

In Dubai, residents with disabilities can download the Olem and Same’e app.

The Olem smart app enables visually impaired people to request for ambulance services by pressing the power button of the mobile phone three times in a row to launch the application, even in cases where the phone is locked by password.

The caller is then directed through a series of voice instructions to the operations control room of Dubai Ambulance, where the stored information of the caller is then sent to the operator via text message.

The Same’e app caters to hearing-impaired residents, allowing users to request for an ambulance through the use of text messages and multiple choices to describe the emergency situation as thoroughly as possible. Like the Olem app, the information is then sent to the control room through text messages.

All three apps are available in English and Arabic.
