Dubai: A man has been accused of threatening via email to kill a married woman and her husband because he was in love with her, heard a court on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Emirati woman was said to have received on WhatsApp a number of messages from a 31-year-old Indian co-worker, who constantly made it known that he liked her and wanted to marry her in January 2016.

Shortly after the woman reported the matter to the office management, according to records, the 31-year-old was fired and left the workplace.

Thereafter, the Indian started sending emails to the woman’s office email ID in which he threatened to kill her and her husband.

The Emirati reported the matter to the police who apprehended the man.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with threatening in writing to kill the woman.

The suspect failed to show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Tuesday.

The woman claimed to prosecutors that the suspect had constantly stalked her when they were colleagues at work.

“He used to send me disturbing messages on WhatsApp and said that he liked me and had the desire to marry me. The management fired him shortly after I reported his actions. He kept on stalking me via email and the last email I received from him was in January 2016,” she testified to prosecutors.

Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal will sentence the suspect in absentia on December 27.
