Located across the 7th floor of the Conrad Dubai on Shaikh Zayed Road, the city’s largest supper club is hosting couples on February 14 for a night of Latin flair.
The Dia del Amor (Day of Love) experience includes a four-course dinner, a mobile barman, tango dancing and live Colombian music all wrapped within the restaurant’s moody chestnut decor.
The menu is packed with sumptuous South American dishes and you will definitely need help selecting your courses, unless you’ve recently moved to Dubai from South America and have a fluency for all things Latino. Luckily, the staff at Izel know the entire menu to the same level of detail that Ordnance Survey would plot a map of Bogotá.
If you wind up overwhelmed with the wide selection of starters, opt for the empanadas norteñas (stuffed dough pastry, two with hand carved beef and paprika and two with blue Stilton cheese and caramelised onions) and queso fundido (melted fontina, provolone and goat’s cheese, and jalapeños) — the perfect dishes to start an evening-long journey through South American cuisine.
The recommended dishes on Valentine’s Day are the restaurant’s signature scallop tiradito with mango salsa and egg vinaigrette and the papaya barbecue Argentinian sirloin. However, staff are happy to recommend other dishes to suit your specific requirements.
As you eat your way through courses, a mobile barman continuously prepares rare and delicious beverages and serves them directly to your table.
For dessert, do not leave before you experience the wonder that is the tres leches — a fluffy and airy cake served with three different kinds of milk; a spongy Latin treat that tantalises the taste buds.
The upbeat tunes of Colombian band Herenica de Timbiqui, who jam live on stage, provide a perfectly complementary aura to the exotic food on your plate.
