Dubai: Police on Sunday diverted motorists away from Arabian Gulf Street after a broken sewer line damaged asphalt on the road.

The Traffic and Police Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police announced diversions from Shaikh Sultan Bin Zayed Road towards the Pepsi interchange, and from Arabian Gulf Street towards the intersection on Rabdan Street, which is located between Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street and the Arabian Gulf Street – opposite the Embassies Area.

Social media users on Saturday night took to Twitter to share images of the broken asphalt, as residents wondered how the crack was caused.

The road will be closed until further notice, police confirmed.

Morning commuters in Abu Dhabi were also affected by a traffic accident on Shaikh Zayed Street after the Shaikh Zayed Bridge, as well as a broken down bus on Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street.

Police warned motorists to drive with caution.
