Ajman: Two window cleaners were plucked by emergency crew members from their damaged cleaning cradle atop a 24-storey building in Al Nuaimia area in Ajman after a support cable holding the steel unit suddenly snapped.

The workers were trapped in the cradle while it was hanging along the exterior of the building’s glass facade at the 12th floor level.

Colonel Nasser Rashid Al Ziri, director of Media and Public Relations at Ajman Civil Defence, said that their operation room received a report on Wednesday evening saying that two workers were in danger of falling and were panicking.

A rescue team immediately communicated with the workers and gave them directions to help them steady the cradle and prevent it from swinging before they were safely pulled out from the nearest apartment’s window by emergency crew members.

They were given first aid and one worker was transported to Shaikh Khalifa Hospital.

Col Al Ziri urged cleaning companies to carry out maintenance on their machines and cradles periodically to ensure safe operations.
