Sharjah: Child safety campaigns in Sharjah will have its own dedicated space to have more reach — via social media.

Informational social media accounts detailing child safety with the handler @shjchildsafety on Twitter and Instagram were launched on Sunday coinciding with the Universal Children’s Day.

The launch is under the directives of Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA). The accounts come in line with the campaign’s objectives of achieving community awareness about child safety and wellbeing in Sharjah and the UAE.

The @shjchildsafety account, which will be on Facebook soon, includes all that is relevant to the safety and protection of children in terms of behavioural, social, moral, religious, educational, psychological and cultural aspects.

“We have launched these informational social media accounts following the vision and the directives of Shaikha Jawaher, who recognises the need to empower future generations, as well as develop and protect them, ensuring their full rights. These accounts will promote the vision of the campaign, which seeks to be a unique international role model in the field of community awareness about child safety,” said Hanadi Saleh Al Yafei, department director at the SCFA and head of the Organising Committee of the Child Safety Campaign.

She stressed that this step aims to bring child safety awareness and practices to the most commonly used communication interfaces in the UAE, using modern social media. Doing so will ensure that child safety best practices will reach the highest number of parents in the region.

Al Yafei said parents, teachers, and experts on child safety can also contribute to the campaign. They can send their comments and suggestions about the campaign’s new account to the following email address: child.safety.scfa@gmail.com.
