Ajman: A four-year-old boy died after he was crushed by an automatic garage door in his family villa in Ajman.

The incident happened on Tuesday. A neighbour noticed the trapped child and notified the family after which the police was informed.

Major Ebrahim Al Sheihi, director of CID at Al Shaml Police Station, said the operations room received a call about the incident at around 9.50pm.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the child was already dead. Forensic reports confirmed that the cause of death was skull fractures.

Police investigation revealed that the garage door had sensors to stop closing if there was an obstruction, but they malfunctioned as the child’s body was small.

The child’s mother said her son might have followed her into the garage without her noticing him.

Brigadier Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, deputy director of Ajman Police, urged parents to check automatic garage doors openers for malfunctions regularly. He also advised them to monitor small children and avoid leaving them alone.
