Lahore: The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that the river Chenab is flowing in high-flood situation at Panjnad Headworks with falling trend with water inflow of 308,000 cusecs and outflow of 300,000 cusecs.

According to daily FFC report on Thursday, the River Indus is at Low Flood Stage at Guddu Barrage.

Other main Rivers including Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.

The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicate that Tarbela and Mangla Dams have attained their Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 and 1242.00 feet respectively.

The Dam Management Authorities have been advised to take utmost care and vigilance in operation and strictly follow filling criteria and safety guidelines.

Today’s combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 14.065 MAF as compared to last year’s 13.888 MAF.

According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, Seasonal Low lies over Northwestern Balochistan. Wednesday’s Monsoon Low continues to prevail over Northwestern Bay of Bengal near Andhra Coast (India).

As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.

However, isolated thundershowers may occur over Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and D.G. Khan Divisions, besides, Kashmir and upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the same period.

No significant rainfall has been reported by Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, during the past 24 hours. 

Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif visited flood-affected areas of Shujabad in district Multan on Thursday and reviewed relief and rehabilitation activities.

Addressing flood victims, the chief minister said that compensatory amount will be paid to them before Eid Al Adha.

He said that political leadership, Pakistan Army, administration and concerned departments will continue their relief activities till the complete rehabilitation of flood victims.

Shahbaz said that instead of helping the distressed people, Imran Khan arranges music shows in the evening for which people of Punjab will never forgive him.

Earlier, presiding over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Flood Relief in Lahore, Sharif directed early survey of losses in flood-hit areas.

He said work on rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by the flood has been started on emergency basis.

The meeting reviewed relief and rehabilitation activities in Gujranwala division through video link.

The chief minister directed the departments concerned to take all preventive measures to protect affected districts from viral diseases.

With a 35-vehicle VIP escort, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) young chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, arrived in Sukkur on Thursday to review flood situation at Guddu Barrage.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Owais Muzaffar, Sherry Rehman and other party leaders.

Reports said at least 35 vehicles are escorting Bilawal, the only son of former President and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Tarbella and Mangla dams have been filled to their capacity amid reports that water reserves have surpassed 10 million acre feet in both of these water reservoirs.

As per IRSA, Tarballa and Mangla dam have reached their highest level. Water level has been recorded at 1550 feet in Tarbella dam and 1242 feet in Mangla dam.

Under a chief minister’s package for the flood-hit people of Pakistan’s Punjab province, each family will be given a one-time financial aid before Eid on October 4.

According to officials, the amount received will be Rs25,000 ($243), Dawn online reported on Thursday.

An official from Dera Ghazi Khan area said that other losses in the form of property and life were being assessed but their payments would be made after Eid.

A total of 43,000 people have been evacuated from the flood-hit areas in various parts of the province, the officials said.

The number of villages under water is 361.

As the floodwater started receding from city areas, thousands of people could be seen camping along roads and railway lines as the district administration failed to provide them with tents and food items.

Pakistan’s monsoon rain which started on September 3 has killed almost 300 people and displaced thousands.
