Dubai: A new hyperloop link is on the cards, and this time, it will travel from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain within 12 minutes.

The Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT) on Monday announced plans that it is carrying out a feasibility study for developing a high-speed hyperloop transportation system between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Following an agreement with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT), authorities will receive details over the next few months over a detailed route analysis, as well as a cost estimate and development schedule.

Eng. Khalid Mohamed Hashim, DMAT’s acting executive director for land transport sector, said: “We aim to study the feasibility of developing the first Hyperloop system, which is one of the most advanced transportation technologies, expected to reach a top speed of 1,200 kilometers per hour.”

Once the proposed study is completed, DMAT and HyperloopTT will then discuss the next course of action.

“We hope to take advantage of this technology to connect the cities of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, which will result in a travel time of about eight to twelve minutes,” he said.

Bibop Gresta, chairman and cofounder of HyperloopTT, said: “Our team’s collaborative efforts from our offices in the UAE and around the world are focused on delivering humanised mobility through the development of the world’s fastest, safest and most energy efficient transportation solution.

As one of the first companies in the world to develop the Hyperloop technology, HyperloopTT has secured its technology innovations and intellectual property with numerous patents — including trademarks granted in more than 33 countries.
