Dubai: In an effort to help Syrian refugees, a campaign has been launched to encourage people to donate clothes when visiting Oasis Centre.

The second edition of the campaign called ‘Clothes for Compassion’ was launched by Oasis Centre to support Emirates Red Crescent’s campaign ‘Our hearts with Syrians’ which aims to help alleviate the hardships of Syrian refugees by donating clothes for them.

Oasis Centre has set collection points in the mall where members of the community can put the clothes they donate in campaign-branded boxes set by the Centre. The initiative will last for one full month before the Red Crescent takes charge of delivering the clothes to Syrian refugee camps.

Speaking about the campaign, Neelesh Bhatnagar, director of Oasis Centre, said: “The ‘Clothes for Compassion’ campaign is actually inspired by the recognised humanitarian heritage of the UAE, with numerous leading initiatives undertaken locally and internationally to contribute to the well-being of communities globally.”

Bhatnagar said they were happy with the response of the community which has contributed almost 15 tonnes of clothes.

“This year we are aiming at a larger quantity to help minimise the ordeal of Syrians in refugee camps in neighbouring countries, especially as we are heading towards winter which is notorious in the region for extreme cold and harsh weather,” said Bhatnagar.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Haj Al Zarouni, Manager of the Dubai branch of Emirates Red Crescent, said that the Red Crescent will continue supporting Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries “through various relief operations, including providing shelter, financial support, medical and educational support to alleviate their suffering especially as we are approaching the cold winter”.
