Dubai: US-based firm Pelli Clarke Pelli has begun architectural and engineering design of Asia-Asia Hotel & Resort, the world's largest hotel and central attraction of the Dh100-billion Bawadi project.

The hotel will have 6,500 rooms, combining 5,100 four-star and 1,400 five-star rooms.

It will be operational by 2010, according to Tatweer, a Dubai Holding unit and Bawadi's developer.

Hill International, another US-based company, is providing project management services for Bawadi.

"Conceiving the design concept for Asia-Asia Hotel & Resort is a significant step in the development of the Bawadi project. We look forward to seeing the creative ideas envisioned by this outstanding architectural firm,"said Bawadi chief executive officer Arif Mubarak.

Pelli Clarke Pelli has designed a number of the world-famous buildings, including the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia.
