Abu Dhabi: Dubai-based Jumeirah Group said on Tuesday it has signed an agreement to operate a 294-room luxury Jumeirah resort on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island.
Located on the north eastern coast of Saadiyat Island, the five-star resort is expected to open in 2017, and will include spa suites, presidential suites, and private villas. Additionally, the development, named Jumeirah Saadiyat Island Resort, will house retail and dining outlets. The development will mark Jumeirah’s second hotel in the emirate.
Once complete, the Saadiyat Island master plan development will be made up of seven districts, which will house and service a population of 150,000 people.
The architecture, interior design, and master planning will be completed by DBI Design Corporation, which also designed Jumeirah at Etihad Towers.
The districts will include The Louvre and The Guggenheim museums, nine kilometres of beaches, six hotels and resorts, a golf course with luxury apartments, the Monte Carlo Beach Club, and the Saadiyat Retreat where the Jumeirah resort will be located, among others.
The agreement was signed with Shaikh Suroor Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan.
“Abu Dhabi’s ongoing and impressive development as a tourism destination will be further enhanced by the Saadiyat Island project. It’s an exciting and ambitious venture, and we look forward to bringing our Jumeirah resort experience to the Island,” said Gerald Lawless, president and chief executive officer of Jumeirah Group.
Jumeirah currently operates 22 hotels, resorts, and residences, including 11 in the Middle East, six in Europe, and five in Asia. A further 26 hotels are in the pipeline.
