'Eid in Dubai' draws support from wide range of private firms
Dubai Government's newly launched initiative, "Eid in Dubai", has successfully attracted many private sector entities in Dubai as sponsors.
Dubai: Dubai Government's newly launched initiative, "Eid in Dubai", has successfully attracted many private sector entities in Dubai as sponsors.
Organised in collaboration with National Bonds as a founder sponsor, supported by Wasl, the asset management group owned by Dubai real-estate corporation (DREC), the "Eid in Dubai" initiative is also sponsored by ARY Jewellery, Emirates, Dubai Festival City and Dubai World Trade Centre, in association with Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG) and Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG).
Laila Suhail, chief executive, DSF Office, organisers of the event, said the immense response from a wide range of companies and establishments in the private sector of Dubai comes as no surprise as they have always lent their support to government oriented initiatives.
"Dubai Shopping festival (DSF) and Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) are two perfect examples of success stories for a unique government-private sector cooperation.
"Eid in Dubai' will complement this solid partnership," she said, while adding that through the focus of the initiative which is a large segment of the population in Dubai, any establishment is able to reach out to its target.
Mohammad Qasim Al Ali, chief executive of National Bonds, said that they "are confident that 'Eid in Dubai' will attract a large audience from around the world and soon become an important part of Dubai's calendar of festive events." He added that the company has committed itself toward a three-year strategic alliance with DSF Office until 2010.
Sponsors have high expectations from the newly launched concept that promotes the religious holiday.
Eisa Adam Ebrahim, chairman of DSMG, and general manager of BurJuman and Reef Mall said that as Eid is one of the highest spending seasons, the initiative will enhance that mood and increase sales for retailers.
"The promotion and events that will take place are going to make people spend more and more. Many malls will have Eid décor and have activities to celebrate Eid," he said.
"We are positive that we are going to turn a lot of visitors into shoppers and spenders, that is our target," he said.
Tawhid Abdullah, managing director of DGJG said the initiative fits in well with their objectives of enhancing their retail business.
"The private sector and the government has taken the right direction to start promoting the two Eid's which in the past wasn't highlighted."
He said that after DSF and DSS, it was time to make a third event around the two Eids, which are the most important cultural and religious holidays.
An Emirates spokesperson said that they fully support the new retail and entertainment initiative and will align their operations to support the objectives of the government and the programme.
The promotion and events that will take place are going to make people spend more and more. Many malls will have Eid decor and have activities to celebrate Eid. We are positive that we are going to turn a lot of visitors into shoppers and spenders."
