TRA clarifies stand on revamping call charges
The UAE Tele-communications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is contemplating a decision that would allow the country's two licenced telecom operators - etisalat and du - to reduce international call charges in lieu of charging customers for services that are currently being provided by them for free, a TRA official told Gulf News on Thursday.

Abu Dhabi: The UAE Tele-communications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is contemplating a decision that would allow the country's two licenced telecom operators - etisalat and du - to reduce international call charges in lieu of charging customers for services that are currently being provided by them for free, a TRA official told Gulf News on Thursday.
But the official added that a decision will not be taken until a thorough study is done on its socio-economic impact.
The study will consider the impact on both the customers and the two licenced telecom operators in the country.
Unlikely
The official added that the TRA decision is not likely in the foreseeable future.
"It will take time to study the impact and the feedback," he said.
The TRA official also said: "Anything that will increase the quality of service and decrease the amount of charges to be paid by the customers for the services provided by licenced telecom operators is fully supported by TRA, as long as such actions do not breach the rules and regulations of the regulator."
