The announcement came during the ITU council meeting from October 26 to 30.

The UAE participated among 46 member states on the council that represents the 191 member states of the ITU.

Under the auspices of Obaid Salem Al Za'abi, the permanent representative of the UAE to the UN Office in Geneva, the TRA organised a dinner at the President Wilson Hotel in Geneva, honouring the participating delegations in the 2009 ITU council meeting.
