Japan's Toshiba is planning to increase its Notebook or laptop computer's market share from 18 per cent to 20 per cent in the region this year, a senior company official said yesterday.
Dubai: Japan's Toshiba is planning to increase its Notebook or laptop computer's market share from 18 per cent to 20 per cent in the region this year, a senior company official said yesterday.
Ahmad Khalil, general manager of Toshiba Computer Systems, Middle East and Africa, told Gulf News that the company plans to spread its wings in 30 countries across the region.
"We have a new expansion plan on the operation, service, marketing and distribution levels to support the new products and expand Toshiba's presence in the region," he said.
"Toshiba will give more attention to the GCC countries, especially Saudi Arabia and the UAE. This year we have already made a headway and are confident that we can maintain our target of continuous growth over average market share."
Khalil said Toshiba leads the growth race within the top three notebook vendors across the Mideast according to the latest data revealed by the International Data Corporation (IDC) for the first quarter 2006.
"With sales up by 117 per cent over the same period last year, Toshiba leads in terms of regional growth and confirms a strong second position in the market," he added.
Khalil said that the positive result with an unchanged determination to continue the hard work and consolidate the already strong team of both Toshiba employees and key channel partners across the region.
"Toshiba's current quarterly growth trend of over 100 per cent over 2005 will be maintained for the whole of 2006. It will all be down to the quality of the products and the reliability of the distribution network and we are confident that Toshiba can make the crucial difference there."
Toshiba's performance was particularly strong in important markets like Saudi Arabia where the company experienced a staggering 185 per cent growth; and the rest of the Middle East, where the vendor is firmly in the top spot with 19.1 per cent of the market share," he concluded.
Category killer
Toshiba's Computer Systems Division has launched yesterday its new Tecra A8 notebook in the Middle East. The Tecra A8 is available now in the UAE for approximately $1,300.
The new Tecra A8 has been designed and engineered for the small to medium business sector with the mobile professional in mind, and incorporates a host of enhanced security, protection and connectivity features at an entry-level price point.
"The new Tecra A8 notebook will be a category killer," said Ahmed Khalil.
